We created some math worksheets for the 1st through 3rd grade level, to use as timed tests.  The goal would be to see if they can finish the sheet in under 5 minutes.

How about some Dictionary Usage! The idea is that your child alphabetizes a short list of words, and finds each word in the dictionary. Knowing how to use a dictionary is great when you need to learn the meaning of new spelling words!

Bible Sheets

Did you ever do Sword Drills when you were a kid in Sunday School? Well, here are some sheets to learn Bible verses about a certain topic. We would stay on 1 sheet for an entire week. Start on Monday by reading the noted Bible story, and see if your child (children) can guess what the topic is. Then see how quickly they can find each verse as you call out the reference to them. There is a list of verses for each day of the week. This is a great way to learn how to look up verses in the Bible, in addition to learning what the Bible teaches about these topics. (You might want to have your child learn the order of the books of the Bible first, to help them with looking up verses.)

Our Philosophy of Education

Very early in our homeschooling journey we learned from others that it is wise to establish your family's "Philosophy of Education."  This is a statement of why you are choosing to homeschool your children, and what you expect to gain from it.  It is not long, and does not go into all the grueling details of how you will homeschool.  It is meant to be a reminder of your purpose and vision, because sometimes you can get buried beneath a mountain of discouragement and forget why you wanted to do this in the first place!  Here is what we wrote, back in 1999.
