About Me

My real name is Scott Weberg, but my in-laws dubbed me Scotto to avoid the obvious confusion at holidays when my brother-in-law Scott was also present. I believe it was my wife's sister, Anne, who first began to call me Scotto, and I promptly responded by calling her Anno. When we acquired an all-black cat, and my kids named him Shado(w), I smiled to myself at how perfectly it fit! I love that cat.

As I have indicated, I am married (quite happily I might add) to a beautiful woman named Amy, and we have 4 wonderful children. Nathan was born in 1994, Andrew in 1995, Ariana in 2000, and Josiah in 2007. (See pictures below.) We have chosen to home school our children, for various reasons, but I do not believe that home schooling is the best choice for everyone. If you are a home schooling family, I hope that you find the resources on this site to be interesting and encouraging!

You might be able to surmise from the logo at the top of this page that I am a follower of Jesus Christ. I hesitate to use the word “Christian” only because the meaning of the word has become muddied these days. We are involved in a small church that is comprised of families that meet together in our homes. As with home schooling, I do not believe that home church is the only valid way to be involved in the Church. I grew up in church, and have witnessed God's moving in various denominations and styles of church.

I work a regular job managing a software development team for a large company. When I'm not working or spending time with my family I like to read, write, play the guitar, or play chess. My favorite TV show right now is Lost . My favorite movies are The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and some of my favorite music right now is anything by John Mayer.

Well I think that's enough about me! I hope you enjoy your stroll through Scotto's Place!

Family Heritage

I have always been grateful for my family heritage. I had good parents and good grandparents - the kind who were actively involved in my life in many positive ways. It is always interesting to think about what their lives were like when they were young:  no cell phones, computers, or TV games!  How did they survive??  I think horse shoes must have been the Playstation 3 of their day!  (See below.)

My mom and dad visited a couple weeks ago, and Dad brought some awesome old pictures of my family on his side.

The little kid in this pic is my Dad's Father, Clarence Weberg. He is playing horse shoes with his dad - my Great Grandpa Arne who I never met. Their home was in Froid, Montana.

This is my Great Great Aunt Hertha Casperson (my Dad's Mother's aunt) who I never met. Dad and his siblings loved to visit her when he was little (in Lake Preston, South Dakota) and she would make Aebleskivers for breakfast, which is a Danish donut.

Evidently one of the Casperson women a generation before this picture cooked for the King of Denmark.

Very cool!
