Essential Office Applications Curriculum
These 2 workbooks together present enough work for a semester of Middle School or High School - 18 lessons over 18 weeks. The material provides a solid foundation in the skills of word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software. Creating these types of documents is one of the most basic uses of computers today, yet it is amazing how many people don't understand most of what these applications can do. These books will arm your child with more knowledge than many employees have!
Book1: Ages 10+. 130 pages, 10 lessons, student exercises, quizzes, final exam.
Book2: Ages 13+. 158 pages, 8 lessons, student exercises, quizzes, final exam.
Each comb-bound workbook (printed in black and white) contains lessons, quizzes, quiz answers, and student exercises. Each comes with a companion CD containing all needed files, additional example files, a full-color version of the workbook (PDF), and the OpenOffice.org application. (NOTE: the CD installs on Windows only. For Mac users, all needed files can be downloaded from this page.)
The lessons can be completed using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) or the FREE OpenOffice.org application. To download your free version of OpenOffice.org click this link.

ADDENDUMS for MS Office 2010:
If you use Microsoft Office 2010, we have created an addendum for Book 1, and an addendum for Book 2, which note the few differences that you will need to understand to complete the lessons using Office 2010.

The OpenOffice.org template Simple Blue Lines is not required, but is used as a template for Lesson 10. You must have OpenOffice.org installed, and you will need to save the file in the correct OpenOffice.org template directory. It should be saved in a directory called layout within your OpenOffice.org program directory, and be similar to the one on my computer:
C:\\Program Files\\OpenOffice.org 2.1\\share\\template\\en-US\\layout\\

NOTE to Microsoft Word 2003 users: there is an issue in Word 2003 with creating the List of Figures as shown in Lesson 3. See notes in this MS Word example document for an explanation: L3ResearchPaperFinal.doc.
