AVAILABLE ITEMS:

Comb-bound workbook - Each lesson ends with a quiz and student exercises. The workbook uses OpenOffice.org as the example office application suite, and there are specific notes for Microsoft Office users as well. All quiz and final exam answers are contained in the back of the workbook. (Printed in black and white.)

Companion CD for Windows 98 and later - contains the following: (NOTE to Mac and Linux users - The CD install program only runs on Microsoft Windows 98 or later. Feel free to order the Download option if you already have OpenOffice.org installed on your Mac or Linux PC.)

PRICING PACKAGES:

Beginning January 1, 2010, we have changed our product offerings to include the CD with the workbook as a single product. This simplifies our order fulfillment process, and is in keeping with other computer manuals that include a companion CD. For those living outside the United States, or those who don't want a physical workbook, we are continuing to offer a download only option for each book.

FREE EXAMPLE FILES:

These files are either suggested or required to be used with the curriculum. To download them, click on the links below with the right mouse button and select the Save Link As... or Save Target As... option.

Files for Book 1

The following two Microsoft Powerpoint files will provide a good starting presentation for Exercise 1 and Exercise 2 of Lesson 9. If you are using Powerpoint 2007, you may not find a template that is close to these, so I have provided these here: L9Ex1.ppt and L9Ex2.ppt

The OpenOffice.org template called Simple Blue Lines is not required, but is used as a template for Lesson 10.
NOTE: You must have OpenOffice.org installed, and you will need to save the file in the correct OpenOffice.org template directory. It should be saved in a directory called layout within your OpenOffice.org program directory, and be similar to the one on my computer:
C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.1\share\template\en-US\layout\

Files for Book 2

NOTE to Microsoft Word 2003 users: there is an issue in Word 2003 with creating the List of Figures as shown in Lesson 3. See notes in this MS Word example document for an explanation: L3ResearchPaperFinal.doc.

In addition to the files in the table below, you will need the following 2 image files for Lesson 3: lightBulb.jpg and modelTford.gif.

OpenOffice.org Format Microsoft Office Format Description
L2ResearchPaper.odt L2ResearchPaper.doc Example for lessons 2 and 3. The beginnings of a research paper with different sections. I teach how to make different page headers/footers per section, as well as inserting figures and a table of contents.
L5Exercise2.ods L5Exercise2.xls Example solution for Lesson 5, Exercise 2. (NOTE the Microsoft Excel version needed an addition to the VLOOKUP function to work properly.)
L5Exercise3.ods L5Exercise3.xls Example solution for Lesson 5, Exercise 3.
L6example2.ods L6example2.xls Functional multi-page spreadsheet to generate a printable student Report Card. I teach how to create this spreadsheet in Lesson 6.
L7example1.ods L7example1.xls Example spreadsheet for Lesson 7.
L8Example2.odp L8Example2.ppt Example presentation for Lesson 8.
L8Example2final.odp L8Example2final.ppt A silly little animation! This is an example presentation that I teach how to create in Lesson 8.
